To determine how a vegetarian diet affects stroke incidence in 2 prospective cohorts and to explore whether the association is modified by dietary vitamin B12 intake.. ..Vegetarians had lower serum vitamin B12 and higher folate and homocysteine than nonvegetarians. In cohort 1, 54 events occurred in 30,797 person-years follow-up. Vegetarians (vs nonvegetarians) experienced lower risk… Continue reading #Vegetarian diet and incidence of total, ischemic, and hemorrhagic #stroke in 2 cohorts in Taiwan

CDC Colorectal Cancer Screening Test Use
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second leading cause of cancer death in the United States of cancers that affect both men and women. Despite strong evidence that screening for CRC reduces incidence and mortality, CRC screening prevalence is below the national target. This report describes current CRC screening prevalence by age, various demographic factors, and… Continue reading CDC Colorectal Cancer Screening Test Use

#Statin-induced GGPP depletion blocks macropinocytosis and starves cells with oncogenic defects
Our studies establish a connection between two isolated observations that 1) statins, taken by millions to lower cholesterol, have antitumor activity and 2) Ras-induced macropinocytosis is important in tumorigenesis. We discover that by depleting GGPP required for pseudopod extension and macropinocytosis, statins selectively kill cells with oncogenic defects by limiting nutrient uptake. https://bit.ly/2wT1ypw

Blood #pressure in frail older adults: associations with #cardiovascular outcomes and all-cause mortality
Blood pressure (BP) management in frail older people is challenging. An randomised controlled trial of largely non-frail older people found cardiovascular and mortality benefit with systolic (S) BP target <120 mmHg. However, all-cause mortality by attained BP in routine care in frail adults aged above 75 is unclear.. ..Risks of cardiovascular outcomes increased with SBPs… Continue reading Blood #pressure in frail older adults: associations with #cardiovascular outcomes and all-cause mortality
